Facts About Fabrics

Colour Cascade Fabrics only uses the Premium quality Zweigart Fabrics which are manufactured in Germany. Zweigart have been making and selling fabric to the world since 1877. You will know if you have a quality fabric made by Zweigart if the fabric has the trademark orange line in the fabric selvedge, and you will have precision woven, absolute state of the art, highest quality fabric on the market.

The most important feature about Zweigart fabric is its outstanding countability which is achieved by high precision weaving.
The fabrics get softer after being washed, but may shrink a bit, so keep this in mind when choosing the size of the fabric you will order.

AIDA FABRICS

With a wide variety of counts, Aida is an easy introduction to cross stitch and embroidery. Colour Cascade Fabrics stocks Aida from 14ct to 20ct. The Aida fabric was actually invented by Zweigart in 1907!

LINEN FABRICS

Linen is known for its luxurious look and feel. The natural flax fibre and smooth surface has made it famous worldwide. Linen comes in textures from smooth to course for a timeless look. The linen also dyes darker than the evenweaves in most cases. Colour Cascade Fabrics stocks linen from 28ct to 40ct.

EVENWEAVE FABRICS

The best characteristic of the evenweave fabric is the absolutely consistent and squarely woven quality of the fabric. This is a favourite among stitchers who prefer the weave to be more even than linen offers. Colour Cascade Fabrics stocks evenweave from 20ct-32ct.

Easy Guide Fabric

Zweigart has also manufactures the premium quality Easy Guide Fabrics. This fabric comes gridded with a 10 x 10 sq that matches your chart, so it is easy to follow where you are on the fabric! The grid washes out when your project is done. So this fabric is best suited to projects that only required DMC, due to the fabric needing to washed in hot water at the end. If hand dyed silks are used, these may run through the fabric or discolour your other threads. Colour Cascade Fabrics stocks only 25ct Easy Guide at the moment, this could change in the future.

A little bit about the Opal fabrics that are available right through the entire range.
The Opal (short for opalescent) fabrics have a shimmery thread that is woven through the fabric at time of manufacture. It gives a gorgeous shimmer to the fabric and looks especially good when the fabric has been hand dyed. A lot of stitchers never go back to plain fabrics after using the Zweigart Quality Opal fabrics. As you can see from this piece of Colour Cascades Back In Black Opal the effect is quite stunning! You can see in the white opal fabric that the sparkle is woven through the fabric to create a beautiful finish.

Above is Evenweave opalescent fabric, how it arrives to me before I dye it.

OK now lets get into the Colours....

Not all colours look the same on all of the fabric types. A good example of this is Belligerent Bog, Look at the photos below. The fabric on the left (top on mobile) is how Belligerent Bog looks on Linen and Aida, the fabric on the left is the same colour on evenweave. They look so different that I could not sell the evenweaves as Belligerent Bog, so I named them a different colour: Shortest Straw as you would be disappointed if you ordered this colour in evenweave and got it, as it really does not look anything like what is pictured for Belligerent Bog.

Another example is Gold Dust. The pic on the left (top on mobile) is on the evenweaves, it looks more gold, however on the linens it doesn't come out the same, it comes out a little different, so again, I have created 2 products, the linens are named Electrum.

However, quite a lot of colours do look the same on all of the fabrics, below are some examples
 Stormbringer
 Lavenders blue
 Garden of Eden

If any of the fabrics do not look good on any of the fabric types, then they are not available to order.
